Data Organizer - adding records[Go back to the previous step building category tree ]
Congratulations. Your database is ready to be used. Let's add a few items.
1) Click the New button in the context tool bar or hit Ctrl+N. The New item dialog box will be
invoked. There is only one entry in the list of forms (the form we have created). Click the OK
button.

2) You are now inside a new form "country". Start entering data for the first country in your
database. Type in "Switzerland" in the name field, "Berne" in the capital field. Select Europe
from the continents list and German from the languages list.
3) Know assign this new form to some categories. In the category tree on the right side check
"Europe" category (under Continents) and "No" category (under Visited).

4) Click the Exit button in the context tool bar (confirm saving your changes). You have now
the first entry in our database.
Note: If you do not see the new entry in the list make sure that appropriate categories are
selected in the category tree. You can turn on all categories by clicking the All button in the
context toolbar.

Add few more countries using steps described above. You can use sample data from the table
below. Make sure you assign items to appropriate categories (this will be important later when
you start using filtering and searching tools).

Filtering items
You already know how to create a new database, prepare your custom form and use it for
entering data into the database.
Now, let's try how searching and filtering works in Data Organizer.
1) Before we start searching and filtering let's make sure that search panel is cleared. Click
the Reset button in the context tool bar. This tool will clear any search options that might have
been set.

2) Right click in the category tree window and select "No categories". Next check "Europe".
You should now see all countries assigned to Europe category.

3) Now let's find out if among these countries is the one with capital in Berlin. Go to the search
panel and type in Berlin in the Value edit box.
As soon as you finish typing you will find out that the country is there.

4) One more exercise for the end. Assume you want to quickly view countries that you have
visited. Clear all categories, next check "Yes" category under "Visited".
Conclusion
By following instructions described in this article you have learnt how to create a new database
and design your own form. You have also used your form to enter new items and assign them
to categories. Finally, you have used categories and search panel to search items.
We encourage you to experiment with Data Organizer - add your own forms, modify them, see
how your modifications are applied in existing items. Rebuild the category tree by adding new
items or removing existing ones.
